MAS AYA (bandcamp)
Mas Aya is the solo project of Brandon Miguel Valdivia (Not The Wind, Not The Flag, Picastro, The Cosmic Range, Lido Pimienta), a Nicaraguan-Canadian drummer, percussionist, flautist, composer and producer. Mas Aya aims to meld music from various parts of the world and from different periods of time: from Indonesia to Cuba, from shamanic and ritualistic musical practices to contemporary popular music styles. Using his training in Western Classical Music and experience as Percussionist well versed in a wide array of Traditional Musics from around the world his work reflects a deep artistic experimentation and spiritual expression. Repetition, patience and contemplation play with dance, intensity and celebration creating a music from nowhere in particular and from everywhere, from neither here nor there. Flutes, drums, seeds, bells, synths, air, water. This concert celebrates the release of his fifth Mas Aya recording "Coming And Going" on Telephone Explosion Records. Brandon will be joined by a band of guest musicians for this special release concert!
COLIN FISHER (bandcamp)
The ever-curious Colin Fisher (Not The Wind, Not The Flag) has been a major presence in Canada's music community for more than twenty years—particularly in more experimental and improvisational circles. Nothing short of a guitar virtuoso, he also wields saxophone, drums, and various other instruments with similarly refined musicality, vivid textural imagination, and sometimes feral abandon. Having worked with everyone from celebrated pop acts Caribou and Junior Boys to American improvising icons Anthony Braxton, Daniel Carter and Joe McPhee, Fisher has proven to be an adept collaborator with an equally engaging vision for his own music. At this concert Fisher unviels his latest solo recording, "Sun of the Heart" out on We Are Busy Bodies.
XICADA (bandcamp)
Experimental electronic artist Xicada brews dark pulsating beats amidst eerie creeping textures and whispered vocals that crawl through the decaying landscape she conjures. A chilling sound track to a cyber goth future existing in a dimensional rift.
Telephone Explosion Records & We Are Busy Bodies record sale in effect all night!
