The York Chamber Orchestra presents a night of musical brilliance, starting with Fanny Mendelssohn’s Overture in C Major, a bold orchestral work rediscovered after being lost for over a century, showcasing the composer’s remarkable yet neglected talent. Young virtuoso Harrison Vandikas takes center stage to perform Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor, dazzling the audience with his brilliant pianism and youthful energy in a work that flows seamlessly throughout its movements, creating a continuous enchanting musical narrative. Composed during a turbulent time during the composer’s life, Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, remains one of the composer’s most popular works, appearing in everything from concert halls to modern media, is a masterpiece filled with urgent passion and dramatic intensity.
