Returning to the stage of the beautiful Old Town Hall Theatre in Aylmer is legendary Canadian country musician Al Widmeyer and his All-Star Band. Mr. Widmeyer has been touring and recording with countless artists over the past 4 decades. Mr. Widmeyer is known as being a dependable sideman or a sure-fire way to heat up the stage as an opening act for legends of country music Conway Twitty and George Jones.
Never one to be counted out though, this humble guitar slinger can step into the spotlight of centre stage and compel the audience to take heed. A master magician of the string poppin' chicken pickin' technique, his hands rarely seem to be moving fast enough to equal the rapid fire delivery of notes coming through his amp.
Some of his career highlights have been playing dobro in the Dixie Flyer, Canada's best bluegrass export, and playing banjo, dobro, fiddle, guitar and mandolin for Stompin' Tom Connors. Over the course of their years touring Mr. Widmeyer became quite close with Mr. Connors and was a pallbearer at Mr. Connors funeral in 2013.
Mr. Widmeyer will be backed by the 1-2 punch of brothers Paul and Mike Weber who had Top 10 hits in the 1980s including "Two Bits Worth of Hurtin'" and "She's No Lady".
Opening the show will be special guest Brian Abbey, John Allen, and Mike Ethelston of Dixie Flyer fame playing country and blues based tunes to get the toes tappin' and hand clappin'.
Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door. Proceeds from the night will be donated to the Forest City Velodrome Association.
