Join Mark Fewer, the Ullugiagâtsuk Choir, Deantha Edmunds, the Bergmann Duo, and others for a dynamic and iconic performance of Carmina Burana by German composer Carl Orff. This colourful and boisterous cantata composed in Germany in 1935-1936, Orff’s Carmina Burana is based on 24 poems from a medieval collection of the same name, originally written in the 11th or 12th century. Opening and closing the contata is the shattering ‘O Fortuna’ chorus, bookending an hour-or-so of music for soloists, adult and youth choirs, and orchestra.

Ullugiagâtsuk Choir is an auditioned choir with choristers in grades 7-12, from the five Nunatsiavut communities in Labrador: Nain, Hopedale, Makkovik, Postville and Rigolet. Their performances are in both Inuktitut and English and are highlighted by drum dancing and throat singing. Ullugiagâtsuk Choir members were proud to participate in The Unisong Festival 2017, to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday in Ottawa.

Deantha Edmunds is Canada’s first Inuk professional classical singer. She was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2023 for her activity as a performer, writer, composer, and mentor, work which seeks to empower Indigenous people and share their stories. She is currently based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Bergmann Duo’s dynamic performances feature an eclectic mix of classical, contemporary, and original works. They have inspired audiences worldwide, performing both in concert and with orchestras across North America, Europe, and Asia. Highlights include appearances at renowned festivals such as the Festival of the Sound, Ottawa Chamberfest, and the Banff Arts Festival.
