AAWKS is a heavy psychedelic doom band from Barrie, Ontario, formed in 2019 and known for blending occult themes, high-fantasy imagery, and fuzz-drenched stoner rock into a dense, cosmic soundscape. Drawing influence from classic doom and acid rock, the band crafts expansive tracks built on downtuned riffs, swirling effects, and hypnotic rhythms. After early lineup changes, AAWKS solidified its current formation in 2023 and gained traction within Canada’s underground heavy scene through relentless touring and festival appearances. Their 2022 full-length album (HEAVY ON THE COSMIC) features songs such as “The Electric Traveller,” “The Woods,” “Space City,” and “Beyond the Sun,” showcasing their balance of crushing heaviness and spacey psychedelia. In 2025, they released On Through The Sky Maze, preceded by the single “Celestial Magick,” further expanding their fantastical, otherworldly aesthetic. Lyrically, AAWKS explores mysticism, inner journeys, arcane symbolism, and surreal landscapes, pairing theatrical presentation with immersive sonic textures. With growing international attention from stoner and doom metal outlets, AAWKS continues to build a reputation for thunderous live shows and vividly cosmic, riff-driven heavy music.
