Benjamin Smith is a Toronto-based pianist acclaimed for his “scintillating technique” (Barrie Examiner) and a dynamic career spanning solo, chamber, and contemporary performance. A laureate of major competitions including the Dublin International Piano Competition and the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, he has appeared with orchestras such as the Stony Brook Symphony, Ontario Philharmonic, and Orchestra London, collaborating with conductors Rossen Milanov, Marco Parisotto, and Yunior Lopez. His repertoire ranges from core masterworks to rarities like Schoenberg’s Piano Concerto, and recent highlights include performances at Carnegie Hall in both recital and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. A devoted chamber musician, Smith has partnered with leading artists and ensembles across North America and is regularly featured on CBC Music. His recordings include releases of standard and Canadian repertoire, notably for the Royal Conservatory Celebration series. Dr. Smith serves on the faculties of The Glenn Gould School and The Taylor Academy at The Royal Conservatory, where he mentors the next generation of exceptional young musicians.
