Chell Stephen is a Toronto-raised, Los Angeles–based writer and director known for a visually bold, pop-infused storytelling style that juxtaposes bright aesthetics with darker emotional undercurrents. Influenced by music videos, The X-Files, and teen dance films, she has built a multidisciplinary career spanning narrative film, episodic television, commercials, and music videos. Her short films include Crystal (2014), Shauna Is a Liar (2017), You’re Alright, You’re Okay (2017), Fire Girls (2019), and You’re My Best Friend, which screened at major festivals including SXSW and the Miami Film Festival. In television, she has directed episodes of series such as Riverdale and Nurses, while her commercial portfolio features global brands including L’Oréal, Givenchy, and JanSport. Stephen has also worked as an editor and collaborates across creative hubs in Los Angeles, Toronto, and Brooklyn. Her work frequently centers on female-driven narratives, identity, and vulnerability, delivered with kinetic pacing, stylized visuals, and a strong integration of music as an emotional and narrative engine.
