Dead Bob is the solo project of Canadian musician John Wright, best known as the longtime drummer and co-founder of the influential punk band NoMeansNo, which he formed with his brother Rob Wright in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1979. After NoMeansNo retired, Wright re-emerged musically under the name Dead Bob, channeling decades of experience in punk, alternative, and experimental rock into a raw, energetic new chapter. Based in Lund, British Columbia, Wright writes, records, and performs as Dead Bob, blending sharp songwriting, driving rhythms, and the off-kilter intensity that defined his earlier work. The project’s debut album, Life Like (released in 2023), marked his return to active touring and recording, earning attention from longtime fans of NoMeansNo as well as newer punk audiences. Wright has also been involved in other creative ventures over the years, including the robotic band Compressorhead and the Ramones-inspired project Hanson Bros. With Dead Bob, he continues to perform live, release music through platforms like Bandcamp, and uphold a fiercely independent, DIY punk ethos rooted in more than four decades of underground music history.
