John Sheard is a Toronto-based Canadian pianist, composer, arranger, and producer whose career spans more than four decades, beginning professionally in 1975. He has appeared on over 300 recordings and collaborated with a wide range of North American artists across folk, jazz, classical, and pop genres. Sheard is especially recognized for his long-standing role as music director and pianist for The Vinyl Cafe, working closely with host Stuart McLean to shape the show’s distinctive live musical atmosphere. As a solo artist, Sheard has released numerous piano-focused albums including Firmament (2011), Jerusalem (Twelve Piano Solos) (2008), and A Coventry Christmas (2009), blending original compositions with hymn arrangements and interpretive works. His repertoire ranges from sacred and seasonal music to themed concert programs such as British Invasion tributes and Burt Bacharach retrospectives. Known for lyrical phrasing, refined touch, and sensitive accompaniment, Sheard remains an active performer across Canada, presenting concerts, publishing sheet music, and contributing to both studio recordings and live theatrical productions.
