
Liz Carroll is an American fiddler and composer, born in 1956 in Chicago. Celebrated as one of the leading contemporary Irish fiddlers, she has earned numerous awards, including the National Endowment for the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship. Carroll's mastery of traditional Irish music and innovative compositions have made her a defining figure in both American and Irish folk music. She has recorded extensively, with albums such as Lost in the Loop, Double Play, In Play, Lake Effect, and On the Offbeat, showcasing her skill in both solo performance and collaborative projects. In 2010, she and guitarist John Doyle received a Grammy nomination for their work together. Carroll is also a member of the ensemble String Sisters, further highlighting her influence on global Irish music. With a career spanning decades, she continues to perform, compose, and teach, inspiring new generations of musicians with her expressive fiddle playing, complex arrangements, and dedication to preserving and advancing Irish musical traditions.
