Lowest of the Low is a Canadian alternative rock band formed in 1991 in Toronto, Ontario. Known for their sharp lyrics and energetic live performances, they quickly became one of the most influential groups in the Canadian alternative music scene. The original lineup included Ron Hawkins on vocals and guitar, Stephen Stanley on guitar, Lawrence Nichols on harmonica, and David Alexander on drums, with Greg Smith, Dylan Parker, and John Arnott joining at various times on bass. Their debut album Shakespeare My Butt, released in 1991, garnered widespread critical acclaim and radio play, establishing the band as a defining voice of Canadian indie rock. Over the years, they have released several albums including Over Years and Overnight, Agitpop, Nothing Short of a Bullet, and Welcome to the Plunderdome, showcasing their ability to combine storytelling with social commentary.
