Luan Phung is a Toronto-based guitarist, composer, and music educator known for his work across jazz, improvisational music, and contemporary fusion styles, performing both as a bandleader and collaborator within the city’s vibrant creative music scene; Phung has gained recognition for projects such as the Luan Phung Quintet, a group of award-winning young musicians dedicated to performing original compositions that blend modern jazz harmony with experimental improvisation, and his recordings—including releases shared through platforms like SoundCloud—showcase a technically skilled guitar style influenced by jazz, progressive rock, and contemporary classical traditions; beyond performing, he is also active as a teacher and clinician in the Toronto area, instructing students in guitar, electric bass, piano, ukulele, and improvisation through institutions such as the Classical Music Conservatory, where he helps mentor emerging musicians while remaining involved in live performances, recording projects, and collaborative artistic work across the region’s jazz and experimental music communities.
