Mortuary Slab is a newer but rapidly emerging death metal band from Hamilton, Ontario, formed in 2022 and already making waves within Canada’s underground heavy music scene. Rooted in a raw and aggressive old-school death metal sound, the band draws clear influence from classic American and European scenes—particularly the gritty intensity of New York and Florida death metal—while injecting a modern edge and a touch of hardcore attitude into their delivery. Their music is defined by thick, downtuned riffs, relentless drumming, and guttural vocals, paired with themes centered around horror, decay, and visceral imagery that align with the genre’s darker traditions. Early releases like their 2023 demo and the Necrorealism EP helped establish their identity, showcasing a tight, no-frills approach that emphasizes atmosphere and brutality over polish. Despite being relatively new, Mortuary Slab has already built a growing following through live performances and underground buzz, positioning themselves as part of a new generation of Canadian death metal acts carrying forward the genre’s uncompromising sound while adding their own contemporary intensity.
