Formed in 2001 under the name Happy Go Lucky, the band soon adopted the name Protest the Hero and released their debut EP Search for the Truth in 2002, followed by their acclaimed album Kezia in 2005 on Underground Operations. The group, consisting of Rody Walker (vocals), Tim Millar (guitar/vocals), Luke Hoskin (guitar/piano), Arif Mirabdolbaghi (bass), and Mike Ieradi (drums), blends progressive metal, mathcore, and post-hardcore influences, delivering complex riffs, odd time signatures, and socially conscious lyrics. Over the years, they have built a dedicated following through relentless touring and ambitious albums like Fortress, Volition, and Palimpsest, earning praise for both their technical skill and emotional intensity, establishing themselves as a cornerstone of the Canadian metal scene.
