Witchrot is a Toronto-based doom metal band formed in 2018, known for fusing crushing, Sabbath-inspired riffing with elements of fuzz-heavy psychedelia and atmospheric shoegaze. Emerging from Canada’s underground heavy music scene, the band quickly gained international attention the same year after a dramatic and highly personal breakup announcement posted to Facebook went viral, later clarifying that they had not actually disbanded. Their early self-titled EP Witchrot (2018) established a foundation of downtuned guitars, cavernous reverb, and brooding lyrical themes centered on betrayal, isolation, and existential dread. The full-length album Hollow (2021) expanded their sound with tracks like “Million Shattered Swords,” “Fog,” and “Colder Hands,” blending melodic haze with slow-burning doom structures. In 2025, they released Soul Cellar, featuring songs such as “Throat Cutter” and “Tombstoned,” further refining their dense, occult-tinged aesthetic. Known for thunderous live performances across Canada and Europe, Witchrot has built a devoted following within the global doom and stoner metal community, earning coverage from major metal publications and sustaining momentum through relentless touring and evolving sonic intensity.
