ABOUT THE SHOW:
“We came here with good intentions.”
Debora and Michael, grappling with the loss of their son, Joel, make an unconventional decision in an attempt to find closure. Their path towards healing involves a tense dinner gathering with surprising guests. As the evening unfolds, questions of forgiveness and revenge come to the forefront, blurring the lines between acceptance, accountability, and retaliation.
Written with sensitivity and humour by the Award-winning author and playwright, Jordan Tannahill, Late Company explores the complexities of human relationships and the challenges of finding peace balanced with the need for retribution.
Kwaku Okyere who starred in GLA’s 2019 presentation of The Seat Next To The King returns to the Region to make his solo-Directorial debut with this production. He recently received the Montreal English Theatre Award as Associate Director, Redbone Coonhound and co-directed the acclaimed production, Fairview in Vancouver and is completing his time as part of the distinguished Langham Directors Workshop at the Stratford Festival where he was Assistant Director on Richard II.
The cast includes Ryan Hollyman (Mirvish, National Arts Centre, Tarragon Theatre), Tanisha Taitt (Obsidian Theatre, Soulpepper, and current Artistic Director, Cahoots Theatre), Dieter Lische-Parkes (2024 George Brown theatre graduate) and Green Light Arts Co-Founders, Carin Lowerison and Matt White.
The show runs May 15 to 26th at the Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts in downtown Kitchener.
“Tannahill's script makes his characters abandon their pretenses, pick them up again, and then set them on fire." — Mooney on Theatre
“This is theatre in its purest form: a cathartic cleansing ... a palpable mix of hostility and pity on all sides ... Late Company weighs heavily on your mind in the days following the performance.” — The Independent (UK)
“Late Company … is excruciatingly good theatre: it feels like open heart surgery.” —Vancouver Courier
AUDIENCE ADVISORY: This play deals with discussions of suicide, queerness, bullying, and features strained family relationships. Recommended for Ages 13+ years.
RUNNING TIME: 75 minutes with NO INTERMISSION.
