It’s our anniversary! Join us as we celebrate twenty years of making music together. Our program features Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass, a gorgeous work for choir and string ensemble in which the composer set the traditional Latin texts of the Mass but gave each section an English title relating to the natural world (The Spheres, Sunrise, The City, Identity, and The Ground). Says Gjeilo, “I wanted the musical development of the work to evolve from the most transparent and spacey, to something completely earthy and grounded; from nebulous and pristine to more emotional and dramatic, and eventually warm and solid—as a metaphor for human development from child to adult, or as a spiritual journey.”

Also on the program are such gems as Rutter’s “Choral Fanfare,” Mozart’s “Ave Verum,” Byrd’s “Sing Joyfully,” and Randall Thompson’s “Alleluia,” as well as contemporary works by Ä’riks Ešenvalds, Randall Stroope, and Morten Lauridsen. We are excited to include Canadian composer Andrew Balfour’s recent “Music is Vibration.” Our program concludes the way we opened our first concert twenty years ago, with a tried-and-true favourite by Thomas Tallis.
