ACO-PEC is the Prince Edward County branch of the Architectural Conservancy Ontario (ACO), a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of heritage buildings and cultural landmarks across Ontario. Formed in 2022 following public concern over the demolition of heritage homes at Sandbanks Provincial Park, ACO-PEC advocates for proactive heritage conservation within the county. The branch organizes educational programs, heritage walks, community events, and tours of historic and adaptive reuse sites to raise public awareness about local architectural and cultural heritage. By engaging residents, stakeholders, and local authorities, ACO-PEC works to ensure that Prince Edward County’s historical structures and stories are preserved for future generations. Their activities include collaboration with municipal authorities, hosting photographic comparisons of historic and contemporary buildings, and celebrating milestones in local heritage.
