Iona Whishaw is a Canadian author, award-winning educator, and former social worker, best known for her Globe and Mail bestselling Lane Winslow Mystery series. Born in 1948 in Kimberley, British Columbia, to English parents, she spent her early years living in Mexico and the United States, experiences that broadened her perspective and influenced her storytelling. Whishaw’s mother and grandfather, both wartime spies, lightly inspired the creation of her protagonist, Lane Winslow, a young ex-spy navigating complex mysteries in British Columbia’s Kootenays. Over the years, she has published multiple novels, short stories, poetry, and even a children’s book, Henry and the Cow Problem, demonstrating versatility across genres. Her mystery novels are known for their intricate plots, compelling characters, and a strong sense of place, earning her multiple award nominations, including the Bony Blithe Light Mystery Award and Left Coast Crime “Lefty” Award. Now residing in Vancouver with her husband, Whishaw continues to captivate readers with suspenseful, character-driven stories while remaining committed to mentoring emerging writers and contributing to the Canadian literary community.
