Neil Sharpson is an Irish novelist, playwright, and children’s author based in Dublin, known for blending dark imagination, sharp wit, and high-concept storytelling across genres. A winner of the Irish Writers’ Centre Novel Fair, Sharpson transitioned from writing for theatre—where he had been active since his teens—to prose fiction in 2017, quickly establishing himself in both adult and children’s publishing. His science fiction debut When the Sparrow Falls (2021) earned praise for its cerebral exploration of artificial intelligence, faith, and authoritarianism, while his horror novel Knock Knock, Open Wide (2023) drew acclaim for its folkloric dread and unsettling atmosphere. In 2025, he expanded into picture books with Don’t Trust Fish, a subversive, laugh-out-loud collaboration illustrated by Dan Santat that playfully interrogates classification and bias. Other works include The Burial Tide and the forthcoming Help! I’m Being Eaten by a Bear. Represented by Jennie Goloboy, Sharpson maintains an online presence under “Unshaved Mouse,” where his irreverent voice and candid reflections on writing have built a loyal readership.
