Purple Hills Arts and Heritage Society, the Downie Wenjack Fund, and their Ambassador program have partnered to present The Poets, a Tragically Hip tribute band made up of members of the Moose Cree Nation.
To strengthen the relationship The Moose Cree nation had with Gord Downie the Poets have incorporated their language into a few Hip songs, while maintaining the Canadian rock legend's sound.
The event gains meaning as it is presented on a on the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
"We are Indigenous and we like to bring that forth in this day and age of reconciliation and the whole push towards striking better relationships between Indigenous peoples and Canadians across the country," says Linklater in a CBC article. He feels it's rewarding to put his language in the spotlight on stage in front of non-Indigenous crowds.
Thanks to Dalton Associates for their support of this event.
Dalton Associates knows that some of the most significant positive mental health outcomes are achieved through collective community gatherings that weave the arts with culture, spirituality, communication, and entertainment. As such, it is Dalton Associates’ honour to partner with the Creemore Festival of the Arts 2023 to present The Poets.
Dalton Associates has been a trusted provider of safe and accessible mental health services throughout the province of Ontario since 1995. While mental health services are often delivered in private and confidential spaces to facilitate individual and small group healing, our organization strongly believes that when communities come together to learn and celebrate art and culture, collective healing takes place. We recognize that connection is created by sharing a space and experience, having a conversation with others, or taking time to reflect on a piece or an experience of art – and connection is healing.
