The Colpoy's Bay WI is excited to welcome Gathering Sparks to our stage!
You will come to listen, and walk away singing. GATHERING SPARKS is the graceful collision of Eve Goldberg and Jane Lewis—musical friends who blend tight harmonies, finely crafted songs, and a love of participatory singing to create an intimate and uplifting experience. Their inclusive approach embraces folk, pop, blues and gospel influences tastefully played on acoustic guitar, piano, accordion, and ukulele.
With their infectious mix of styles and compelling vocal blend, Gathering Sparks has been making some big waves. Their debut 6-song CD was nominated for a 2014 Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year, and they quickly became an audience favourite. Whether they are belting it out a capella style, tugging on your heartstrings with a folky original, crooning a jazzy swing tune, or getting into the spirit with a gospel-inflected singalong, Gathering Sparks performances make fans out of listeners with their stellar harmonies and fine musicianship.
Eve and Jane will also conduct some music workshops in the afternoon on Saturday, October 5, beginning at 2:00pm. You have the chance to join them for one of the following workshops:
Harmony Singing Experience! (for beginners and/or folks who want to SING!)
What is harmony? How do you know what to sing? This workshop will introduce the basic concepts of harmony singing, along with a chance to sing and experience some beautiful harmonies in the group. We'll learn different parts for a Gathering Sparks song (or two!), which will enhance the evening concert.
Fingerpicking for the Ukulele
Most of us start our ukulele careers strumming everything in sight, but fingerpicking your ukulele can open up a whole new way of accompanying a song. In this workshop we will explore basic fingerpicking technique and learn several fingerpicking patterns that you can use to accompany songs. Beginner to Intermediate.
Tickets are available for the concert, the workshop, or a combination ticket that will allow you to participate in the workshop and see the concert for a reduced price.
