While Kazik Radwanski’s latest feature sees the Toronto director reunite with the stars of his widely acclaimed ANNE AT 13,000 FEET (KCFF20), his new film’s astute blend of comedy and drama makes for a very different yet equally engaging viewing experience. Deragh Campbell appears here as Mara, a university professor whose dissatisfactions with her life and career become harder to bear when she reconnects with Matt, a writer and old friend played by Matt Johnson, the star and maker of past fest faves like OPERATION AVALANCHE (KCFF17). A sly, subtle, yet sympathetic study of a woman wrestling with conflicting desires and a pile-up of uncertainties, Radwanski’s fourth feature extends great warmth toward its characters despite (or maybe because of) their willingness to mess up their lives.
