As the Festival turns 25 this year, so does our LOCAL SHORTS program! In earlier editions of KCFF, every feature film was preceded by a locally produced short. In more recent editions, we’ve offered standalone packages for these films so you can watch them all in a tidy single screening. We estimate that nearly 500 local short films have played at the Fest, including work from names like Audrey Cummings, Les Stroud and Mike Downie. Designed to accommodate experienced filmmakers as well as emerging talent, we’re consistently amazed at the scope of work created in and around Kingston! All films in this program are automatically considered for the Best Local Short Award, presented on March 2 at the KCFF Awards Party.

UNDER THE LIGHT OF THE HARVEST MOON

A farmer is haunted by the ghost of his dead wife while attempting to hide her body.
UNCOMFY
Director: Jessica Hinkson
A woman in a comfortable, hetero-normative relationship reaches out to an escort to explore her queer side in a quest to answer the age-old question, “Am I missing out on something?”
PODUNAMU
Directors: Kai Mateo Lee Ronceria, Taylor Snell, Ellie Stirton
Hahsun Kim and her mother Mirye Roh both work at the Korean restaurant Podonamu in Kingston, Ontario. The mother and daughter duo sit down to share their experiences of the restaurant and each other. What starts off as a simple interview about the restaurant transforms into an intimate firsthand experience of both love and resilience.
A-OKAY

A-Okay brings attention to the hyper-sexualized and romanticized society we live in and how its expectations, stigmas and stereotypes can be harmful to individuals on the aromantic and asexual spectrums.
PUT THE FUN IN FUNERAL

After losing their childhood best friend, Bet, an unpredictable non-binary individual, is forced to face their fear of going back to their hometown to attend the funeral services alone.

On the night before a wedding the bride and bridesmaids gather for drinks and the dare game “King’s Game” when things take a turn.
