Join us for a stroll along Bridge Street and its cross-streets to view the many magnificent mansions built in this leafy area in the late 19th century.  The commentary will include both architectural notes and stories about some of each house’s inhabitants through the years.

Among the group of United Empire Loyalists who settled Belleville in 1789 was John Taylor, who purchased 100 acres known then as ‘Taylor’s Hill’, but now called the Old East Hill.  Captain John Meyers arrived in 1790 and was granted adjoining land.  It was their children and grandchildren who sub-divided the properties into building lots, and it became the place for the successful and fashionable to build their homes.

This is a fundraiser for the HASPE Digitizing Project, presented by the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario (PEC branch) and the HASPE Project Committee.  At the end of the walking tour (around 4 pm) attendees will be invited to a local hostelry for refreshment.
