Harp Concert at Ameliasburgh Heritage Village

Visit us at the Ameliasburgh Heritage Village (517 County Rd 19) on September 12th at 2:30pm to hear the heavenly sounds of 16 harps in concert, playing celtic, folk, and popular music! Harpists have come from various parts of Ontario, and beyond, for a relaxing retreat in beautiful Prince Edward County. After a week of classes, they are delighted to perform an indoor concert for the community at the church gallery within Ameliasbugh Heritage Village!

Admission to the concert is free with registration, donations to the museum are appreciated!

About the Huron Harp School Prince Edward County Retreat: Huron Harp School (HHS) is based in Goderich, ON, where Director Sharon Johnston has created a community of harpists that gather regularly to learn and play together. They are very active in Huron County and beyond, performing as soloists, small ensembles, and larger groups, in a variety of settings. They can be found playing in nursing homes, hospices, churches, and occasionally give concerts which include over 20 harpists.

HHS sponsors a yearly harp retreat, open to anyone who plays the harp, always in a beautiful location. These week long retreats involve a 2 hour harp class every day, with the rest of the day available to rest, relax, and explore the area. Retreats have taken place in Tobermory, Sauble Beach, Manitoulin Island, and Grand Manan, New Brunswick. This year they are delighted to be in Prince Edward County with 16 harpists.

Sharon Johnston leads the retreats, and specializes in community-building within a musical setting. After a few days of classes, all harpists can play together, at all levels, and the emphasis is on enjoying musical collaboration. Wherever the retreats take place, she is always looking for places to perform in a casual setting.
