About Canada Southern Railway Station

The Canada Southern Railway Station (CASO Station) stands as one of St. Thomas, Ontario's most iconic landmarks - a grand testament to Canada's railway heritage. Built between 1871 and 1873, this two-storey Italianate masterpiece once served as both the headquarters and passenger hub for the Canada Southern Railway, a key link connecting Michigan to New York State. During its peak in the early 20th century, the station bustled with travelers, goods, and the rhythm of industry that helped shape St. Thomas into "The Railway City." After closing in 1979, the station underwent a stunning restoration, preserving its ornate architectural details and vast interior halls. Today, CASO Station serves as a cultural and event venue, hosting weddings, exhibitions, and community gatherings while housing the North America Railway Hall of Fame. More than a relic of the past, it remains a living monument to the craftsmanship, innovation, and spirit that built Canada's rail legacy.
