The Canadian Celtic Choir’s repertoire features songs from Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, and the Canadian Maritimes ranging from the traditional (including a few songs sung in Irish and Scots Gaelic) to the more contemporary. This special concert titled "Celtic Memories" is a fundraiser for St. Martin's Anglican Cathedral in Gander.
The CCC is led by conductor Paul Grambo, BMus, MMus. Prior to his appointment as conductor, Paul served as our voice coach, emcee, and alternate conductor. In addition to leading the CCC, Paul is a member of the Grammy and Juno nominated Elora Singers, Artistic Director of London Pro Musica Choir, and has his own voice studio. Renowned pianist Stephen Holowitz has been our accompanist since November 2022.
The Canadian Celtic Choir has performed both nationally and internationally including: Pier 21 in Halifax, Canada Summer Games, Windsor Celtic Festival, Goderich Celtic Roots Festival, Owen Sound Celtic Festival, Fergus Highland Games, Home County Music & Art Festival (London), Canterbury Folk Festival (Ingersoll), Fieldcote Summer Music Series (Ancaster), Lighthouse Theatre (Port Dover), the opening of the Wolf Performance Hall (London, Ontario), Brantford Music Club at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts (Brantford, Ontario), Women’s Canadian Club (London, Ontario) and several times with Orchestra London Canada (now London Symphonia). The CCC has opened for the Men of The Deeps, The Irish Descendants, John McDermott, Lighthouse, and John Tesh.
The Soundbone Folksong Choir is a non-auditioned choral group for adults who share a love of traditional and contemporary folk songs from Newfoundland and Labrador. The choir is directed by traditional musician/music educator, Jean Hewson. Jean believes that a community’s soul can be revealed, in part, through its folksongs. They provide a glimpse into tragedies and triumphs of the past, diversions and entertainments of the present, and visions and dreams of the future.
For more than 40 years, Jean has collected, arranged and performed the folk music of Newfoundland and Labrador, and is grateful for the many opportunities the music has given her. She has had the good fortune to play and tour with some of the province’s best-known traditional musicians, and has spent most of her life teaching, and working with organizations focused on music education and the passing on of the tradition.
Soundbone Folksong Choir is an extension of her work with the Vinland Music Camp: a unique annual camp devoted to the traditional arts of Newfoundland and Labrador. Her hope is that the choir will feel like a gathering of old friends gathered around a campfire, enjoying good company, laughter, and some great music.
